After Light

lyric

erse 1
My life split open the day you left,
Into the before and after of you.
I hold the past like a fragile thing,
But the after asks me to move.
If I reach down deep for strength again,
Crack my heart just enough to feel,
I might let a little light come in
And find a way to heal.

Verse 2
I walk through rooms you used to fill,
Soft echoes trailing behind.
The love you carried doesn’t fade,
It settles warm inside my mind.
And I know you’d want the after-days
To shine instead of break,
So I breathe you in and let you be
The light I still can take.

Chorus
So I let the after-light in,
Let it fall where the shadows have been.
You’re the glow that steadies my hands,
The reason my heart still stands.
The before is a precious, sheltered place,
But the after is mine to write.
So I open the door and let you in—
You’re the after-light.

Verse 3
I’m learning loss is not an ending,
It’s a turning of the page.
The story keeps unfolding still,
Even through the grief and age.
You’re woven through the quiet nights,
The mornings soft and bright,
And every step I take from here
Is guided by your light.

Bridge
When my life flashes past someday,
It won’t be the sorrow I see.
It’ll be the laughter, the gentle days,
The way you lived in me.
And I’ll know the after wasn’t dark—
It was where I came alive.

Chorus
So I let the after-light in,
Let it fall where the shadows have been.
You’re the glow that steadies my hands,
The reason my heart still stands.
The before is a precious, sheltered place,
But the after is mine to write.
So I open the door and let you in—
You’re the after-light.
