After Flight

A Villanelle

By Amanda AlexanderPublished 2 years ago 1 min read
A Crow Near a Lake at Sunrise (created with Ideogram)

A feather drifts where shadows softly blend,

The crow calls out, a keeper of the night.

In cycles of life, we learn to mend.

*****

With each lost breath, we learn the ways to bend,

Your laughter echoes in the fading light.

A feather drifts where shadows softly blend.

*****

The seasons change; my sorrow seems to send

A whisper to the stars, my silent plight.

In cycles of life, we learn to mend.

*****

You’ve soared to skies where earthly ties must end,

While I remain beneath the weight of night.

A feather drifts where shadows softly blend.

*****

I seek the strength to rise, to comprehend,

That love transcends the dark, the wrong, the right.

In cycles of life, we learn to mend.

*****

Though loss may anchor, hope will still extend,

As dawn breaks, it brings a new insight.

A feather drifts where shadows softly blend,

In cycles of life, we learn to mend.

Villanelle
