The memory of us sets me aflame.
A burning moves throughout my veins,
As I long for the day I can be free of these chains.
I think of how I lost you and I wonder who’s to blame.
Was it me that drove you out with my wicked need to maim?
Now I drown in my tears as if they were the heaviest of rains.
And I wish I had you here, instead I sit alone, soaking in my pains,
While I wait for the devil to come and lay his claim.
How can I be forgiven when this is the mess I have made?
Perhaps this is my punishment, perhaps this is my fate.
To grow old in hopes of your return.
As years pass by, I have become far more afraid.
That I shall be forever cursed to sit here and to wait.
And I wonder what the lesson is I’m to have learned.
