Admitting Victory

Despair, I'm not struggling with you, it's you who is struggling with me.

Look what you've done‐

If only, you had your own eyes

to see the Hell you've curated...

all that you've brought to ruin,

from all on which you make me ruminate,

the voids you create,

and the void that you are.

The life, and light you continue to take,

you only seek to destroy.

These war grounds you've painted‐

each and every, of your strokes is its own battle scar

and my mind remains tainted with your lasting presence.

Look what you've done‐

Are you proud?

of the damage you've done...

the tears that have splashed around where you stand...

the person in the mirror, you've shattered...

I admit‐

you've done a number on me,

as well as so many more‐

my eyes, I cannot lift

no longer, do I see the present as a gift...

and with the past you've roped around my neck,

you've robbed me of the hope I once had for the future.

But...

To you, Despair, I say this;

this battle, a war of attrition it's become‐

this fight, for my life...

you've all but won.

Despair‐

I'm not struggling with you...

you, are struggling with me.

How?...

Because I'm still here‐

even though you are evident,

I've decided to not breathe my last‐

although, the temptation has been very present.

Despair‐

You may have turned everything against me‐

my heart, my mind, feelings and even time itself;

you've stolen my passions, my desires, dreams and even my appetite‐

but even you must admit...

you can't quite finish the job‐

I'm still standing

and still breathing‐

you can't put an end to me

so you can't claim victory

and, I may not have the power to put an end to you, but–

Eventually...

you will have to admit defeat‐

although I know that you won't

I want you to know...

that as long as you refuse, so will I

and since you won't give up

I sure as Hell won't either.

About the Creator

JM

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
