Summer gifted us with seasonal delights:

waterhole swimming, fishing, and boating,

along with belly-filling backyard barbecues.

Wildflowers and those grown in the garden,

plucked to brighten tables and window sills…

even as droplets of sweat slid down our brows,

while sipping honey sweet tea on the porch,

longing for a single kiss, or maybe two,

from a gentle, cooling Summer breeze.

But Summer has a time, and that time has passed.

To the season of sunshine, we bid farewell

and step into October’s enchantment.

Here we find tempting aromas of pies in the oven,

symphonies of sight composed by nature’s kaleidoscope,

discarded leaves dancing from trees like dervishes,

twirling and swirling to gracefully reach the ground,

and gray, misty mornings harmonizing perfectly

with the lush beauty of Autumn.

Carpets of grass, once perfectly manicured

and green from gentle Spring rains,

have faded to a pale shade of wheat and grown sparse.

Ice-filled glasses of tea sweetened with honey

are traded for mugs of hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Water excitement’s exchanged for telling stories untold,

shared around cozy and crackling bonfires,

hypnotic with their frolicking, flying embers…

celebrating October and the charm of Fall.
