I buzz

When the word

Friend

Slips unbidden

From your mouth

Like some kind

Of calling card

To come visit

Normal.

.

I knew a place

Called Normal

Where everyone

Smiled

Like they really

Meant it.

Green grass,

White teeth,

Rich health.

.

They

Kicked me out.

.

I wasn't pretty

Enough

For their ranks

So I sat

In the grass

And watched

Them eat

Dinner

Through the fog.

.

I was hungry.

And the food

Looked so

Divine

That I ate

The scraps

Tossed

Beyond

The fence.

.

It made me

Sick.

But then

I heard

Friend

Whispered

Again

And I started

Wanting to visit.
