A vision of the power of sound

Daylight

too bright to

hear the transparency

of Lacewings,

a Bird of Paradise unravel,

the pop

of a seed-head bursting,

to illuminate the creak

of the Earth’s backbone

as it leans towards the sun.

At Epidavros

in the pooling darkness

of limestone,

engraved

in the chink of silver

dropped on stage far below,

you can hear the silence of oracles,

the tip of an icicle

melt

the fizz of expectation in my adolescent eye.

Superb. I don't know exactly how to describe this; I guess it's just the definition of poetry, what you did here. For me, it's the daylight being too bright to hear, the darkness of a shadow allowing you to hear a silence, that makes this poem so masterful. You're writing in the negative space, the place where senses inform other senses, even the lack of them, and it shouldn't make sense but it does, even more than it would in prose. Perhaps I'm rambling now, but my goodness, this is a fantastic piece. 👏🏻🤩💯❤️
