Accident Park
Jersey family summers in the 80's
The humidity of summer stole our good common sense.
Moms and dads, aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents.
Ready to risk it all, for the love of a cooling thrill.
This staple of a water park had been known to kill.
Many a shutdowns courtesy the ruthless wave pool.
Unbiased in its victims, could turn an Olympic swimmer into a fool.
Everyone gets the chance to bob up and down and gasp for air.
Lifeguards underaged and underpaid, no cares to spare.
Leaping off a mountain, my eyelids glued shut.
Water might be too shallow, pins and needles attacking my gut.
Everyone’s watching, wondering if I’ll survive or die?
Out of my way, going around for one more try.
Numerous mishaps, unpublicized deaths, poorly designed awesome rides.
Buckle up family, we’re going again next week, taking danger all in stride.
