Abused Snowflakes

A Push Back on Pain

She watches a snowflake descend from the sky,

A delicate crystal caressing her freshly blackened eye,

Mixes with a tear as it rolls down her cheek,

Emotions so strong, she can barely speak.

The wind whispers insults she thought she'd never hear,

Expected to be strong, so she can't how her fear,

Depression surrounds her like a deep colorful mist,

Tries to run away, but gets caught by the wrist.

Drained from being trapped in his constant spotlight,

She questions her ability to stand up and fight.

To fight this fight is to face her fears,

To win is to drown him in her river of tears,

To lose is to stay, stuck where she is,

Trapped in a cycle, no will to live.

If she loses her will, she loses her life,

But what will it be? His fists or a knife?

She can't give up, can't back down,

But he's a different person when no ones around.

Screaming, yelling, making demands,

She talks back, he raises his hands.

Waits for him to sleep and devises her plan,

Tonight, she takes a silent stand.

Tonight she disappears, becomes unknown,

He won't wake in the morning, and the town will be thrown.

They didn't listen to her words, so they had to be shown,

Ignoring abuse is to condone.
