Abcs of death

By Ken Cruz

Alas the years flew by

Birth till now I look back with a sigh

Cemeteries cat call me, beckoning me to die

Demanding a final dance like a boy at the ball

Each day new burdens attack any effort I try

Feeling meak, meager, like a bird that can’t fly

Ghost taunt me with ghastly cries

Hope escapes me like a death row pardon call

I’m like a body falling off a ride

Just a carcass left behind

Killed years ago, yet left alive

Love lost, like a child at the mall

Most days this emptiness won’t subside

No rainbows in sight or immaculant guide

Only cold empty sheets, lord knows I tried

Prizes left behind as I continue to stall

Questions arise, what happened to my stride

Resolutions unfound, it seems I already died

Sleepless nights wondering if I can save pride

Tossing and turning, boiling in sweat I fall

Until he comes for me I’m technically alive

Vindication from the past don’t seem to arrive

Wins and losses battle, trying to coincide

Xanthic my decrepit skin wrinkles and all

Youthful spirit gone, yet i continue to strive

Zenith or hades await me to join their hive
