Struggling to write this villanelle.

Words imprisoned, door a-lock.

A story deep I need to tell.

The hand cannot the head compel.

The words, not birds, refuse to flock.

Struggling to write this villanelle.

Oh where, O muse to cast her spell.

And wave away this writer’s block.

A story deep I need to tell.

Bonanza stanza - where thy dwell?

Tercets, quatrains - why thou mock?

Struggling to write this villanelle.

High hopes destroyed, descent to Hell.

And tethered still this cursed rock.

A story deep I need to tell.

Accept defeat and dream dispel.

No more I seek, no door I knock.

Struggling to write this villanelle.

A story deep I need to tell.

Villanelle

The rhythm on this mother is perfect 👌 I love when a poem is fun to read aloud. Some villanelles really don't shine that way, tbey sound confused and repetitive. But this one WORKS 😁 thank you for sharing

  • Lol, a Villanelle about struggling to write a Villanelle. Brilliantly executed!
