A Villanelle for my friend

Deeper, deeper, deepest.

By Francis CarterPublished 5 months ago Updated 5 months ago 1 min read

There is a cry deeper than you or me.

It comes from a depth that’s darker than soot.

It comes from a place that’s sweet like iced tea.

There is a cry that most will never breathe.

It comes on a sunny day, by a river brook

Or a calm evening with a fresh airs breeze.

It is a cry, that’s not like your average sting

It’s one that can darken your favorite book

It can your sink your heart to a new kinda sink.

There is a cry that’s deeper than the sea.

So deep, it’s colder than ice freezing shook

So deep all turns dark, the cry sings sweetly.

There is a cry that’s so deep it turns sweet.

So dark, and froze softly singing sweet tooth.

So dark and so cold it starts to sing sweet.

It sings sweet as its heart sinks lower, sweeter.

From the depth of the bottom of darker deeper blues

So deep the cry turns sweet begging the sweeter tune

When you hear it you will look away and amuse.
