A Tree That Grew Teeth

Branches that Grieve and Dream

My roots drink me in entirely from the shadows of a long forgotten sun

burrowing deep into the ground past the shallow rocks,

turning water into rivers of the thickest mud.

Swallowing me whole, entirely, in a flood.

These roots remember pieces of what the branches so often forgot

but not in this place, not in this place.

My roots propel me forward like an arrow,

into the farthest pit of space.

For I am a tree that learned to walk,

a tree that time all but lost,

but here I am,

my tangled roots creep and crawl, drag and fall, carrying with them the weight of the world for us all.

Wondering, wandering, pondering.

I am the girl who grew from her place in the ground, a seed, a being, a stalk, frozen in time, anchored by birth,

I grew from the chaos you buried me under

a place that couldn't be found.
