My daughter screams

Mom there’s a spider

In the corner

I enter the room

I forgot to dust

Its use

Confinement of

Forgotten toys

And approach

The two scraggly victims

Hand me some paper

And while she searches

I grab a jar and place it

Over the first spider

She hands me the paper

I slide it over the lip

And tip it into her hands

She carries it bravely

Outside and returns

By the time I reach

The third my mercy

Has expired and

She laughs as I

Smash it with my shoe

You lose your fear

With your patience
