A Soldier Waits

In A Foxhole

Secreted away in a foxhole in silence

I watch in the inky deepness of night

Like a blanket, the heaviness of the inaudible weighs on me

Envelopes me in a hushed stillness of a fathomless pit

Night is muzzled and mute

Couched in breathless waiting

Ears strained_tuned to the slightest stirring of my enemy’s position.
