A sip of Poison

Villanelle of Regret.

By Antoni De'LeonPublished 10 months ago Updated 10 months ago 1 min read

You are the poison I sip from my Lalique cup

The ache that burns like venom - acrimonious

Like Romeo's fair Juliet - One sip and I die

~

The crystal gleams though shadows rise up,

A chalice of grief, beauty existing in infamy

You are the poison I sip from my Lalique cup.

~

Each swallow binds me, I cannot but cede,

To the taste of despair, so dark and odious,

Like Romeo’s fair Juliet - one sip and I die.

~

The heart repeats what the lips interrupt,

A vow of love, both tender and ruinous,

You are the poison I sip from my Lalique cup.

~

The stars bear witness, yet in silence corrupts,

Their light extinguished, their promise erroneous,

Like Romeo’s fair Juliet - one sip and I die.

~

So fate entwines us, no turning, just lips,

The end is foretold, eternal and piteous -

You are the poison I sip from my Lalique cup,

Like Romeo’s fair Juliet - one sip and I die.
