A Sign On My Forehead Screams Failure

I have failed time and time again

Definition of stubborn

Just look up my name,

Under C in the dictionary

We are one and the same.

***

It’s why I don’t usually fail

I’ll always refuse to give up,

Until the desired outcome

Is how I envisioned as much.

***

But suddenly I’m getting older

Stubbornness is not enough,

Certain things I put my mind too

I’ve been beaten and it’s tough.

***

How to deal with this failure

No matter all the time I’ve spent,

Struggling and working hard

Still the outcome is torment.

***

Try as I might to win the battle

Time has not been on my side,

I regret every time I gave in

No matter how hard I tried.

***

Would I have succeeded

If I’d given more time,

I try again and again

But it is an uphill climb.

***

I haven’t totally given up

Or so I tell myself each day,

I’m just taking a break

Not admitting failure in any way.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
