A Shattered Heart

A Whisper of What Is Lost

By Nikki BakerPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

A yearning so strong it becomes an ache for touch,

yet the whisper of dreams still slips away;

I strain for gentle words, but I hear nothing much.

A caress never comes, though I need it so much

an echo of emptiness shadows each day;

a yearning so strong it becomes an ache for touch.

I reach for the soft things my memory can’t clutch,

for love’s quiet voice that cannot stay;

I strain for gentle words, but I hear nothing much.

The tears fall softly, their meaning as such

that even the heart cannot bid them obey;

a yearning so strong it becomes an ache for touch.

Dreams drift beyond fingers I can never clutch,

their fragile silhouettes fading away;

I strain for gentle words, but I hear nothing much.

So I honor the losses I carry as crutch,

even knowing they wander too far to outweigh

a yearning so strong it becomes an ache for touch

I strain for gentle words, but I hear nothing much.
