A Secret Smile
There was something in your smile,
Something hidden all the while,
You looked at me, then looked away,
As though you had something you couldn’t say.
It wasn’t loud, it wasn’t clear,
But somehow I could feel you near,
A little smile across your face,
That seemed to put the world in place.
Nobody else seemed to notice it,
Nobody saw the little bit,
That passed between your eyes and mine,
A secret moment frozen in time.
You smiled again, I looked away,
Pretending nothing had come my way,
But deep inside I knew it too,
There was something hidden there with you.
Was it a thought, was it a sign,
Was that secret smile really mine?
Or was I reading far too much,
Into a moment, soft as such?
Some smiles can speak when words won’t come,
They say the things we keep unsung,
They cross a room, they disappear,
Then leave their meaning hanging near.
And years may pass, and people change,
But some small things remain so strange,
A secret smile I can’t explain,
Still comes back softly once again.
Maybe you knew, maybe you didn’t,
Maybe the moment was just forgotten,
But I remember that little while,
When you gave me your secret smile.
There was something in your smile,
Something hidden all the while,
You looked at me, then looked away,
As though you had something you couldn’t say.
It wasn’t loud, it wasn’t clear,
But somehow I could feel you near,
A little smile across your face,
That seemed to put the world in place.
Nobody else seemed to notice it,
Nobody saw the little bit,
That passed between your eyes and mine,
A secret moment frozen in time.
You smiled again, I looked away,
Pretending nothing had come my way,
But deep inside I knew it too,
There was something hidden there with you.
Was it a thought, was it a sign,
Was that secret smile really mine?
Or was I reading far too much,

Maybe you knew, maybe you didn’t,
Maybe the moment was just forgotten,
But I remember that little while,
When you gave me your secret smile.
