A Season's End

The trees casting shadows,

giving off a sinister aura,

playing games with my mind,

till I'm going insane.

Losing the idea of distance,

while the night rolls in.

Feelings of being watched,

come from the treeline.

Could it be the paranormal,

or someone following?

Twigs cracking ring in my ears,

as I'll say it's just a squirrel,

not caring to know if I'm wrong.

I can't breathe any quicker,

my lungs not able to take oxygen,

caused by smoking.

Not going to risk running,

there's a possibility to twist my ankle.

Skill to avoid rocks is lost,

with them crunching under me.

Fascinated with how this will end,

with me finally caught.

Are they going to leave my body,

granting the animals a feast?

I'm wishing to be home,

tucked under a blanket.

This never ending nightmare,

haunting me even after I wake,

lingering behind me.

How close I am to escaping,

a radius needed to travel,

less than a mile.

Something unseen pulls me back,

it then becomes clear.

The trees and I are similar,

for we are both dead.
