A rose in a jar symbolizing love

How first we feel when we go out hand in glove

A thing of beauty seen from above

Two birds in flight with the wings of a dove

But life’s not like that anymore

With you, it’s all about keeping score

Ignoring the stars with your feet on the floor

Counting the steps to the exit door.

I like to stand on top of a mountain

Watching the world go by

Thinking about the mysteries of life

Watching a newborn baby cry.

I like to get down deep in a river

Touch the sand with my toes

I like to think about all of those things

That nobody ever really knows.

***

With you, it’s all about the money

With you, it’s all about sex

With you, it’s all about the money

And how you once knew Becks

With you, it’s all about the money

And what you did with your ex

With you, it's all about the money

And how you once broke your legs

In a footfall playing football

With some drunken low-class dregs.

***

With you, it’s all about the money

That’s where you start and end

With you, it’s all about the money

You’ll never break you'll never bend

With you, it’s all about the money

And how much you think you’re worth

With you, it's all about the money

And you think you’re worth the earth.

***

A rose in a jar

Tomorrow it will be dead

And all that will be left

Are the hurtful things you said

A rose in a jar it’s not worth a toss

A rose in a jar symbolizing loss.

Since the first time I met you

Since first our paths crossed

All you ever gave me was

A rose in a jar of which you knew the cost

A rose in a jar that you tried to over-gloss

A rose in a jar like an early morning frost

To you is just an ephemeral thing that you don’t even care you lost.
