The moment stilled, just you and I

Your watchful gaze in sweet repose

Caught unaware beneath a mackerel sky

*

The current gathers, drifts on by

That fragrant place where sagebrush grows

The moment stilled, just you and I

*

If you would turn and catch my eye

And speak of love that ebbs and flows

Caught unaware beneath a mackerel sky

*

I’d see again, the dragonfly

Cut-throats, blue-winged Olives, Rainbows

The moment stilled, just you and I

*

But before the Fall, the seeds bone dry

Borne on a fiery wind that blows

Caught unaware beneath a mackerel sky

*

The flames consume your startled cry

The yellow cottonwood explodes

The moment stilled, just you and I

caught unaware beneath a mackerel sky

Hi Sg - Although way out of the popular 'Gen' demographics, and not into contest, as I scroll through your 'eclectic' presentations *I've subscribed with pleasure. Actually, Stephanie, I'm just - Heartsy - for your Cutest-Dog-Ever. Fun: Such a Creative Writers Fishy 'Mackerel Sky' Reach. btw; I see that you interact with my bff, Kristen, she has such 'Grace.' Your poem is a poignant portrayal of a moment frozen in time, encapsulating the tranquility and sudden upheaval of nature's beauty and its transformative power.

  • This was so poignant and emotionally yet so beautifully written! Loved your Villanelle?
