A Ride Home

With him

By Bree DunnPublished 7 years ago 1 min read

The car rattles with the windows down,

But the air keeps white noise, so we don't roll them up.

You don't say anything, focused on the road.

I pretend I have nothing to say either, even though my heart is aching.

You turn on music to break the silence, but I want to hear your voice.

I want you to pull over and tell me everything is okay.

"I love this song"

I wish your hand was around mine, I wish I hadn't made that mistake.

I should have kept quiet, should have stayed just friends.

"Thanks for driving me, yeah, see ya later"
