A Requiem for Michael: Today the World is Far Too Dim

A rhythmic tribute to the eternal Peter Pan who left before the final dawn.

By Serhan TerzioğluPublished 4 months ago • 1 min read

Today the world is far too dim to sing of where you've gone,

It’s clear you left too soon, Michael, before the final dawn.

The longest days of radiant light stayed on the twenty-first,

It’s clear you left too soon, Michael, when our illusions burst.

Tell those who fly upon their wings, no sky awaits them there,

Who then would leave this sweet moonlight, who would even dare?

Who’d want to soar above the moon without you, Michael, who?

If life must lead to lonely lands, away from all of you,

I’d rather break my silver wings and choose to walk the floor.

I want to live forevermore, like Peter Pan of yore.

If any rainbow lingers on behind the tears you cried,

It is the light that brings it out, the light you held inside.

I’d choose a false, enchanted print over a grim decay,

I will not mourn you differently, Michael, than yesterday.

Today the world is far too dim to sing of where you've gone,

It’s clear you left too soon, Michael, before the final dawn.

The longest, brightest days of light stayed on the twenty-first,

It’s clear you left too soon, Michael, when our illusions burst.
