A Poet's Canvas

The beauty, sheer beauty of a piece of paper

so blank, unmarred, waiting

for the chance to become home to many words

many dreams, dreams unspoken and unheard.

Each line so light to guide the hand

across the blank and barren land

that will soon become home to many words,

many hopes, wishes and prayers, silently whispered.

Or they MAY SHOUT!

Or...they, they may cry.

The words may reveal what is deep inside,

of the heart and the mind.

The words can have some awe-inspiring power

so strong as to cause quickly the passing of an hour.

So sweet, so pure, a true dreamer's bliss,

something the mind cannot easily dismiss.

The intense glow of light off the paper so white

slowly dimming as the words fill the page.

Words of love and of inner peace,

words of hate and sorrow or rage.

"What shall I write?" asks the poet of the pen

How does the pen now reply?

"Write words that will make the paper glad

to have been your canvas dear poet,

do not make it sad,

for it contains the dreams of your life."
