A Poem my Mom Wrote
"A thought that should be a poem"
“Today I had a thought that should be a poem – if I ever get around to it.”
But Mom, you wrote a poem today when you put down those few words,
For the poem is in the simple thought and in the thoughts it stirs.
The poem is in the reading,
As much as in the rhyme,
In the way it reaches to the heart,
And of something there reminds.
I like the simple poems,
The ones with no pretense,
I like them to be that direct
I like them to make sense.
Of how we live our days,
Of how some things just pass us by,
Of how they get away.
We never mean to lose them,
We just simply miss them there
Because there are too many things
For to take up every flare
That stirs down in our hearts,
Or up inside our minds,
So we catch just what we can
Within our bit of time.
But I want you to know, Mom,
That today you wrote a poem,
And that it touched within my heart,
And I hope it touched your own.
