A Pagan Celebration
Ancestral Poetry
We gather at this sacred site,
Where ancient gods are hailed.
We bring our gifts of blood and meat,
To please them and prevail.
We carve these runes upon our flesh,
Great symbols of our lord.
We chant his name, the one-eyed seer,
Who guides us with his word.
We light a fire upon the hill,
A sign of thunder's might.
We hear his voice, the hammer's thrill,
Who grants us strength in fight.
We crown the queen of love and war,
The lady of our lands.
We dance with her ‘til evermore,
She holds us in her hands.
We honour him who rules the sky,
The giver of the law.
We raise our swords, his justice high,
Who keeps us from the flaw.
We share the boar, the festive meal,
Which binds us to one plate.
We celebrate the turning wheel,
Of seasons and of fate.

Wow. I love it. The rhyme and meter make this such an easy, enjoyable read, and you describe pagan rituals with great detail and historical understanding. (I put on The Mystic's Dream by Loreena McKennitt as I read this, for added effect.) This is so well done, Heather!
