A Night with Wings

Midnight hour swirls in fog around me,

Slowly blinking open my tiny eyes.

I’m upside down! What’s this around I see?

Other black winged friends, to my sure surprise.

———-

I breathe the night inside of me and stretch.

This unknown body seem foreign but known.

I take off and fly, a meal I will fetch.

My ears spot a chipmunk near a pine cone.

————-

My bat belly filled with a scrumptious meal.

I take flight under the cover of stars.

Feeling of flight, the best feeling I feel.

Swaying high above the city and cars.

————

This dream is a dream I’m hoping won’t end,

Thank you for this adventure, my bat friend.
