A Night I Couldn’t Cry
My tears turned to dust

A Night I Couldn’t Cry
There was a night the tears stayed still,
a night my heart refused to break,
though the pain was sharp and deep,
my eyes remained unbearably dry.
I lay in dark with clenched-up hands,
my thoughts like storms against my skull
every wave of heavy ache,
beat hard but brought no fall of tears.
I begged my heart to let me feel,
to free the grief I held so tight,
nothing from my body moved,
as if the sorrow froze in place.
The silence pressed against my chest,
a weight that grew with every breath,
all I wished for in that time,
was one soft moment of release.
But when the dawn began to rise,
a faint relief began to stir,
though the tears had stayed behind,
my spirit found a way to move.
Some healing starts without a sound,
though no tears were shed that night,
the quiet shift inside my bones,
became the first step out of pain.
