The new year we celebrated with such pomp and show,

For some, it was a survival game on the go.

Bomb blasts, their fireworks in the sky painted red,

Echoes of joy here while elsewhere they fled.

In our world, laughter echoed in the air,

Their world, a heavy silence of despair.

As we danced through the night, they huddled in fright,

Hoping the dawn would bring peace, not another fight.

Our new year started with hope and passion,

There, it unfolded in a ruthless fashion.

Where we saw promise, they faced endless sorrow,

A future uncertain, no light for tomorrow.
