Rising from my knees, silently I leave the room

Passing by other’s, quiet as a tomb

Silent haunts accompany me

As I trod a path to destiny

Reaching the exit I step out in the sun

Perhaps a morning jog, maybe a good run

I used to love mornings, dawn’s warm rays

Listening to cicadas as I breathe in the haze

Sit on the porch and sip at some coffee

A drop of milk, sweetened with toffee

In my youth we had a horse named Factor Prime

I’d ride him for hours, laughing the whole time

The day he passed I bawled like a baby

Are there horses in Heaven? Maybe

I climb the steps, wistfully reflective

Bowing my head: Was I so defective?

A necklace of hemp my reward

Here on these oft trod boards

I look over the faces: young, old, female, male

Looking up at me as I end this tale

Will she cry to see me swing?

Will I laugh as my dark soul takes wing?

Beneath tired feet boards shift, fall

As the bottom drops, along with my all
