A MEMORY

 A friendship that lingers (for Tommy)

(*)(*)(*)

I close my eyes and I see the face

Of a man I met so long ago.

I hear the joyous laughter

Of that friend I got to know.

Now he’s just a memory

I think as time goes by.

His absense leave me empty,

And my heart keeps asking why.

I knew his body suffered

And caused him massive pain.

I often wondered if there’d be a day

When Tom might smile again.

But that day would never come;

My tears I couldn’t hide

The day his family called

To say that Tom had died.

He never had the chance to live –

He was only 23.

But cancer took another life –

And yet, finally set him free.

He left his world so peacefully –

So young and in his sleep;

The fun and laughter that we shared

Are the memoires I will keep.
