A Poem

i’m sorry i was late to your class.

and after i was late,

i fell asleep.

it’s not that it was boring-

though i did think it was boring-

it’s just i didn’t have the time

to drink caffeine.

i know you think that it’s because i don’t care.

and even though i don’t,

that’s just not it.

you see my insides they were crawling

and the rafters they were falling,

but i know that you don’t care

to know these things.

it’s more about the way she breathes the air.

and everytime she moves,

i feel queasy.

my brother, he was shouting,

and the pressure, it was crowding,

and i think i lost my shit

a little bit.

i didn’t sleep til it was five o’clock.

it was past two by the time

i called the cops.

they didn’t get here until three

and then they just left me,

so i’m sorry if there’s homework

i forgot.
