A Kiss From Fury
“Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.”
I've practiced patience plenty,
and now, my skin bleeds for vengeance...
so it is only natural that I go with what my heart tempts me‐
I skate on ice thinner than a hair's width,
hoping that the next time this vessel in my chest deceives me...
it might simply bring an end to me‐
as years of learning of triggers has placed one firmly in my hand,
and a match in front of my mouth...
while my palm has never needed a reason to grip such a thing,
and my voice has never needed an ignition source, as it only needs to speak the overflow of my heart's burning‐
I'm not looking for justification to let loose such a fire...
So why might I continue to refuse the gratification of such desire?
~
I'd rather simply give in to the sin, than battle anymore, the flesh of my skin
I may plead for forgiveness...
but deep within I can feel that I can't wait to let go of everything again‐
No longer, is my heart willing to wait for relief
as it has burned without peace for years too many
and the weightlessness my body yearns for will not be found in waiting for anything‐
I've already given a kiss to fury, and have tasted rage
and, I've practiced restraint and have lived in such a cage...
but my eyes, have found much pleasure in watching everything burn
as my reward for endurance has been nothing but more to endure‐
this world has decided that every turn is my turn when it comes to torture...
So why might I choose not to retaliate with an inferno of my very own?
~
What a wonderful blessing,
torment internal,
a battle that rages on unseen...
might I give full vent to the motion of flames that burn within me
that I might blow off a lot more than mere steam‐
as I have already counted past ten... ‐thousand,
nights of prayer, pleading my case‐
I suppose my voice never made it past the ceiling...
days of waiting, only wanting change‐
I suppose it was nothing, that that choice was revealing‐
and now that that discipline is behind me...
What's to stop me from embracing the colors of rage?
About the Creator
JM
Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
