“What makes a home?” A question, the answering hard.
For a home is more than a building, a room, or a yard.
Home is what you know, it lacks any surprises.
No matter the colours, no matter the sizes.
Every nook, every cranny, every corner and door
Every stipple on the ceiling, every crack on the floor.
Home feels comfy, feels warm, feels secure
Home loves you back and its motives are pure.
Your masks for the outside can be cast aside here
Just you – your pros, your cons – no judgment, no fear.
Home’s memories are riddled with joys of the past –
Christmas, family dinners, nicks in walls where you grew up so fast
And with it are memories laden with sorrow,
Where you heard that a loved one would see no tomorrow.
Home relies not on its limiting walls
Home can be found where the heart hears its calls.
So “what makes a home?” – you, and those you have welcomed inside.
And more, but at least I can say that I’ve honestly tried!
