A Greyscale World

For the month of June,

All the colors in the rainbow decorate the streets,

Representing all the different human beings,

All the you’s and me’s.

A time when everyone gets to feel seen.

The world celebrates the collective experience, the “we.”

Turns out there is a place for each of us,

Not hiding or wondering “why,”

Not covered in guilt and shame and reaching for the sky.

This is it... where we belong.

A glimpse of what feels like the future…

But not for long.

Its July 1st and the streetsweepers paint only a greyscale world behind them,

As they suck away the glitter, colors, and gems.

We have successfully time traveled back again,

Back to when, there wasn’t a proud place for you’s and me’s,

Back to when the dictionary was the only thing that could define … “WE.”

But this can’t be.

Because I am Me,

And deserve to walk proudly,

While fighting for those who believe, that who they are is not meant to be.

But rather, that shame and guilt and fault lie within what has been inbred into Society.

Stay strong and be Free,

For your colors are inviting,

One hell of a sighting,

Proof that you’ve been fighting,

And this, a glimpse of all your goodness in writing,

Because all that you are is the dream.

The future shining so brightly in just one beam.

You got this. Stay safe, but don’t let the world drain the colors of your being!
