A Great Good Truth
Thoughts on uniqueness, unity and the human spirit.

A Great Good Truth
I am an artist.
I always thought my uniqueness as a person
was specifically,
my ability to
Create.
A versatile artist can embrace every color - like embracing every
aspect of life:
the red days
the teal days
the sunny click-my-heels days
the dark black dog days
the green and leafy-moss days
the pink-kissing-sweet days,
…the artist does something special.
To a degree,
this thought is true,
the artist makes order from chaos.
They reach bravely into the void
and pull something back with them,
into this world,
create something
tangible for everyone
to see
to touch
to feel
and enjoy.
To make a new color.
This is what it means to Create.
Like trying to imagine a primary color you have never seen before.
Something ethereal, impossible,
New.
Perhaps born of former shades and hues,
other sultry or sentimental views.
Inspired by everything,
but utterly New.
Creative.
How unique to the visual artist – to me – I thought this magic was.
But then I thought better
and I recognised a great, good truth:
the essential desire to Create
is in everyone.
To bring into existence
that which was not there
before you came.
A tiny little part
of a Very Big Bang
deep inside every Being
the desire to create.
A spark that is shared.
The artist sketching
The engineer solving
The scientist testing
The gardener tending
The renovator mending
The happy couple expecting
The leader directing
The designer perfecting
The extrovert always connecting
The athlete reaching
The student aiming
The patient teacher explaining
The poet dreaming
The inventor supposing
The wild musician composing --
All creating.
Imagining new colors.
This ability to create
simultaneously makes me unique and
also connects me to everyone.
Creation - the uniqueness we
share.
