A Gambling Dream

Double Your Money

I dreamt I walked into a hall,

Where golden coins began to fall,

A voice cried out, "Come, take a chance,

And watch your little fortune dance."

The roulette wheel began to spin,

I placed my bet and hoped to win,

The little ball went round and round,

Then landed with a clicking sound.

I won a tenner, then a score,

A hundred pounds, and even more,

The flashing lights began to shine,

As every winning number was mine.

"Double your money!" someone cried,

As Lady Luck stood by my side,

I threw my winnings on the green,

And dreamt of riches never seen.

I'd buy a mansion by the sea,

A golden car, a yacht for me,

I'd fill my pockets to the brim,

And live a life of wealth and whim.

The dealer smiled and spun once more,

My heart was racing as before,

But then the wheel began to slow,

And all my winnings had to go.

I woke to hear the morning rain,

My lovely fortune gone again,

No golden coins, no grand estate,

Just yesterday's bills upon my plate.

But still I smiled and shook my head,

And snuggled underneath my bed

No, underneath my quilt so deep,

To dream of winning in my sleep!
