A Friend, Turned Foe VI

I can't believe I trusted you... I learned the hard way, that I shouldn't have. I won't make that mistake again.

My feelings...

I've always wanted you to be a friend‐

but I guess I've grown out of that naïve thought.

There's really no end...

to the torment you've brought,

or the horror you still bring.

You can't help but be against me‐

always showing up uninvited,

greeting me with the coldest welcome

seldom are you ever here for good-

I honestly doubt that you even or ever could‐

do anything other than contradict,

what is good,

what is true,

and what is right.

My feelings‐

you've come to be,

one of my worst

adversaries‐

showing me,

the mirror,

and the world,

your absolute worst‐

the ugliest colors

returning again, and again

as if rehearsed‐

A thief in the day,

to bring only ruin‐

A thief in the night,

to bring only hurt‐

as you take my peace,

turning time against me.

You were never a friend,

but a clever foe

like a wolf,

in sheep's clothing.

If you don't bring me to my end,

I can bet you'll likely die trying‐

tieing up my tongue to spout your lies

and the biggest liar i know,

always caught, but can't ever stop‐

the world knows it too.

To my feelings,

if only I could detach myself from you

and free my heart

from the trouble you stir up,

from your fickle nature

and the lies you tell.

I wouldn't be perfect,

perhaps no longer human‐

but with one less foe,

I am in one less fight‐

and maybe I'd finally find peace

in one of these nights.

But, the rain continues,

as you are an enemy I am unfortunately chained to‐

never were you a friend,

but I'm stuck with you‐

just one more foe.

About the Creator

JM

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
