A Fair Maid's Kiss
It was but June when she arrived to make them all swoon.

hark, there is a rumor 'round the town mill
that a fairy girl has bewitched the males—
quick, let me gather my paper and quill—
and, oh, she is so lovely the moon pales.
her name is a secret kept close to heart—
and, yes, she does make those young beats patter;
those rhythms shall stutter when she does part
and many a boy will grow a-tatter.
she'll be gone yonder by August's late light,
and I shall watch each pining eye take note—
though her beauty is a thorn and a bite
while I languish in my own little moat.
all the lads hold their breath as they perspire
for but this fair maid's kiss that they desire.
