A Facsimile of Me

Missing my mind

By Gabriel B. ShamesPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

Plodding along, I don’t feel like myself. Actually.

I don’t feel connected to the me I should be.

I’m doing the same routine I’ve been programmed for, but the essence of me — the self of myself — isn’t there.

How strange, how disconcerting….

It’s like I’m a “me” that only approximates who I am. I look the same, I sound the same, I act the same (during the task at hand).

I’m guessing I even smell the same… but something is missing. Something fundamental.

Because I’m not me.

Not fully…

It’s like I’m a copy, a facsimile… unbound by the weight of soul, but also lacking the spark of life.

It’s not about an international trip or a quiet hour in nature. When I say I need to find myself, I mean it literally.
