A Dream Out West

A Poem

I want a cottage out in Clare,

Bathed in the Atlantic sunset,

By the shaded mountains,

Standing in the sea spray air.

I want to go and travel now,

By bus by train by car,

I’ll walk and drag if needs be,

I will travel any way how.

I want to plan a stay,

To live off dried jars,

Of fruits and beans and leaves,

And craft each and every day.

I want to bring some wine,

Bottles of Three Wolly Sheep,

And drink over a simple broth,

And be asleep by half nine.

I want nothing more,

But even this is too much,

For a world that can’t get enough,

A world I’ve lost all hope and love for.
