A curio shop’s notebook,

Cased in forest green.

An impulse:

Storage for the field’s discoveries.

Dull pencil, thick white paper.

Feverish research notes,

Scribbled data,

And quick sketches of pelicans & pines.

Experiment in gray.

Little boxes filled with tick marks,

Makeshift graph,

A note: “more data needed”.

Brown, muddied pages.

Hypotheses between puddles.

A thesis.

The wrinkle of tropical rain on paper.

A novel’s foreword in blue ink,

A project proposal,

An essay,

Hopes of becoming Muir or Thoreau.

A sketch of a hummingbird,

Labeled "iridescent purple."

A note:

"Behavior: delightfully brave & curious."

Musings on life and the universe.

Philosophy in black ink.

A diary,

The recording of new revelations.

A pressed yellow flower, spp. unknown.

Fading, delicate petals.

A poem;

Naturalism invading research's space.

A curio shop’s notebook,

Pastel from sun & adventure.

A slice of life:

A young scientist’s mind, evolving.
