A buried seed

Swallowed

By Emily McGuffPublished 10 months ago • 1 min read

A seed swallowed long ago

Has grown

With little to sustain it

But my belief and woes

.

A seed sprouted becomes

Life within me -

Hesitant shoots climb my chest,

Ropes around my organs,

Entwining with cage-shaped ribs.

.

To sprout from my mouth,

Through dulled teeth,

and eyes,

The color of wetted mud -

An amalgamation of beauty.

.

Woes feed it, too? you ask

And indeed they do.

For it is hungry for all forms of life

.

The good and the bad intermingle,

The vines leading down my torso.

.

Legs are branches;

Feet are leaves

And they march to the rhythm

Of the sun,

The moon,

The tides.
