In the Throes of Grief

**Author's Note/Content Warning: This was influenced by the recent and sudden passing of a colleague.

-

Just a buoy, anchored and tethered, but at the mercy of the waves.

Thrashing and bobbing, left to the elements and the relentless battle.

In the throes of grief without comprehension.

The anger, the guilt, the despair, the suffering.

Left to freeze in the winter, boil in the summer, languish in between.

A constant cycle, never-ending blame and shame.

What few answers only lead to more questions, remaining unsettled.

Paralyzed by the shock, tortured by the unknown, angered by the decision.

There is no true understanding.

Frantically looking back, searching for the reasons.

Hindsight makes it less obscure.

Why certain actions were taken, behaviors explained.

Underlying issues festering beneath the surface.

A parasite sucking out the life, the light.

Leaving only darkness with no way out.

No way out.

But one.

Very sorry for the loss of your colleague. The buoy imagery is an apt metaphor for the grieving experience. Very powerful poem!
