A break from all that is heavy
Here I share a poem I wrote this past winter during Andrea Gibson's workshop, Write Your Heart In.

A break from all that is heavy
I’m painting marigolds on your window in the light of dawn.
You stand on the other side drawing a wolf bearing sharp teeth.
You are trying to scare me away.
The beast rolls around, swirls in marigold orange.
Matted fur soaks.
Now it’s raining.
A blur of tumbling tracks, mouth gasping, panting.
Orange earth swallows the whole scene
Collapses.
The last light surrenders.
The beast rests its head heavy, deep belly breath up and down.
This lullaby slumber is a weightless break you must take.
Wild wolf, may you sleep now in marigold orange mixed with stars.
