A Ball of Yarn

Unthreaded

A ball of Yarn so round and full

Complete with vibrant overlapping strands

So soft and whole

So much to give

Endless creations to be made

Unraveled,

Thread by thread for others to use

Each strand so delicate

Each so unique

New strands pulled from the ball

Are a strong, pure color

Full of bright red, fibers from end to end

Others are used and worn

Over time the ink

Has faded, into a frail pink thread

These eventually begin to break

Down to the last bit of thread

Knots form,

Some untangled,

Some forever bonded together

But at times, more strands are demanded

The pull becomes too strong

And like all things under pressure,

They snap.

Broken off, forever gone,

Some strands can be mended over time,

However only if they intertwine.

Over the years the ball grows

Smaller and Smaller

Too many strands

Hanging loose and taken

When will it ever end?

Unrolling and Unwinding

Over and over

Feet after feet of thread being stripped

Being given so willingly

Until there is nothing left.
