A Poem

Slumbering toes wiggling to life

Snails gather their lunch pales

Elephants scurry about to feed on the drought

A raccoon filled with self-doubt pops his pills to chill

As the rich chinchilla rests in her villa

The ants strain under the weight of keeping society afloat

The badger’s claw always at their throat

A crow takes note of all as it caws for the fall

The craven raven judges harsh those it deems misbehaving

As it does the same in the privacy of its nest

Striking at those it deems unblessed

The hippopotamus’s hypocrisy is plain to see for you and me

But the jackals cackle because they know they’ve backed him to the hilt

Because the house of cards is fragile

So they bluff and keep us down with peanuts in our guts

And blinders on our minds

But the mantis whispers in our ear

“You see, it is all clear.

The end is near.

The new beginning has not begun.

You must extinguish the sun.

And survive the night,

For a new world to take flight.

The caterpillar must die

For the moth to fly”
