A poem

7am,

Feeling like I’ve been

Awake for

Four days.

-

Walked for hours

But saw my feet

Remained in the

Same place.

-

Tried to speed

Up

But my body stayed

Stuck

In the same

Place.

-

Those

Flashes of memory

A husky voice

Hardened by daytime

Drinking

Grazes my face where

A beard could be someday.

-

I sit and think and stress

And feel nauseous

And sink into the bed again.

It’ll all be okay.

It’ll all be okay.

-

How many times

Did I lie

To try to make my past seem okay?

A barren wasteland,

The winter sun

Burning, flashing, probing

A blessed disgrace

Alone, in a desert,

Falls to his knees and screams.

-

I wake up,

Sweating again,

Struggling

To breathe.
