7.5 million breaths

for when gentleness is unnatural

By Leigh Victoria Phan, MS, MFAPublished about a month ago • Updated about a month ago • 1 min read

they say

I should put space

.

between

.

.

my thoughts

But my thoughts want to race and rush one into the other and never cease never slow never risk going so still I drown———

breathe

deep

deep

deeper

hold your breath

inside of your chest

for a count of four

exhale

slowly

slowly

slower

than your inhale

(Join me. Really.)

it took

3 years

ten thousand miles

20,000 breaths a day

22,000,000,000 breaths

but these practices

actually calm

this racing heart

this pacing mind
